Beachnut Stables at Dry Creek Ranch

  Refreshing. Last Feb. while Jim was in the hospital and I was doing all the heavy barn work my back started acting up. At the time I thought it was my right hip but it turned out to be Spinal Stenosis which I went to PT for and it cleared up.

This past October something similar happened BUT the pain was different starting with a sharp pain in the groin and going down the leg to the knee. I was having two to three attacks a day where it would cause me to suddenly not be able to walk and the limp. The pain in the groin would stop but the knee kept right on  hurting. A month ago I went for x-s and it showed arthritis in both...we knew that....the hip was bone on bone but the knee just showed arthritis. So we tried a shot in the knee...ouch! which didn't work. The attacks stopped but the pain worsened in the knee bringing us to Tuesday's visit.


Interesting Dr's visit today. Turns out there are possibly two areas involved. Knee and hip. X-rays show arthritis in both of them. Hip shows bone on bone. Knee shows just arthritis. Both are confirmed a problem. The problem is we can't be sure exactly which is causing the pain as both the knee and the hip can cause the same type pain. Of course nothing I do can be easy. I could wait on hip get shots in the knee,,not guaranteed to work and someday down the line the knee would have to be replaced. The hip could wait..it's not going to get better...my health could get worse in the meantime and I also in the future could be a bad candidate health wise to have either surgery. Both surgery's will still loom in my future no matter what. At this point I am a good candidate for both. We went over all issues and knowing it might not cure the pain in my knee we are going for the hip replacement first. IF the knee still hurts we can try the shots which is what we will do but even at that knee replacement still looms. I could have just gone for the shots but really that's just putting off the inevitable. The shots in the knee are also not a cure just a way to put off what needs to come. I am still comparing this to my last hip replacement which did the same thing so I am praying it will take care of the pain.
He left it up to me..that's what I like about them no pressure and everything up front. I told him I knew what I would have to go through , this time....and I am reconciled to do the hip while I am in reasonably good health. I do not just want to "put things off". Another ting that kind of convinced me was seeing some of the real elderly in wheelchairs that have had surgery in their 80's..the mind can't take it, the body can't either. I do not want to be like that.

we are now waiting on a call from the Dr's office on when they can do surgery on my hip.
